J. Menor

J Shot me over a pic of his tiki that he's been working on and off with for the duration of this year. He Also made a beautiful hula girl. His pieces were designed and constructed out of layers of different types of recycled wood. From there he painted his pieces into the work of art you see before you. Awesome!

Grant Fukuda

I always wondered whatever happened to Grant. A couple of years ago he up and moved to NYC and then I heard through the grapevine that he was in Seattle. It's been a good couple years or so since we last skated Cholos or Kapolei and had some beers at the Hideaway. Recently I recieved an email from Grant regarding some projects he had planned for RHPS like their shoe with Vans and his collab with Max Schaaf / 4Q Conditioning. Looks like things are rolling along very well for Mr. Fukuda according to this article I came across from a recent interview he did for a local barbershop of all things. When Grant left Hawaii he started Grant's Golden Brand waterbased pomade. This seems to have been his focus the past couple of years according to the interview. Anyways it's a pretty interesting read, if you're interested click HERE. Maybe when he's in Hawaii next time he'll stop by for a quick visit (hint hint)! Grant if you're reading this let's go skate and have a cold one for old time sake!

SXA family and friends @ Russ Pope's Artshow

This past Friday Dec. 9th 2011 the Blue Hawaii Gallery in Kalihi featured the artwork of Russ Pope entitled "Tiny Bubbles". Outside in the parking lot SXA had a small kine bbq pupu style along with some cold beverages to wash it all down. The great thing about having these shows at Kalihi is the coming together of family and friends who you haven't seen in awhile all together in one spot. For some it was their first time to a show up at the gallery and for others they already knew what to expect...goodtimes! Mahalos to Russ for coming together with Blue Hawaii to put on this show, Liam for helping with the setup and steady supply of Starbucks, also to Marlon for the BBQ, Kingman for hooking up Stance socks for everyone, Ian for supplying all the box wine one could drink!, the crew over at Vans for all the BBQ's one could handle for a week, Julien and Cardiel for riding their fixies all the way from Chun's on the North Shore to Kalihi in the rain!!! and all my fam and good friends who showed up and helped make this a memorable event. Until next time Aloooohaaaa!!!

Russ Pope

Lots of cutting, painting, and waiting for paint to dry. All in all it's been a goodtime and very stoked to have been able to work with and to help out Russ for his show tonight. Crazy thing is we're not even done! Still more cutting and hanging to do.
