Hickam Skate Hangar

It seems like yesterday that Hickam Skate Hangar was the playground and training ground for Hawaii's up and coming skateboarders. The list is long and the history is deeply rooted. Names like Kyle Yanagimoto, Alf Kondo, Rene Mathyssen, Rob Carlyon, Robby Gaskell, Chris Kays, Ian Okui, Alika Freitas, etc, etc. have finely honed their skills here. Hickam houses the only 2 wooden bowls on Oahu. Being that the park is located on Hickam Air Force Base this makes access to the skate park a challenge because of the high security protocol one has to go through to gain access to the park. The building of this park lead to the building of other skateparks as well as much improved quality concrete parks throughout Oahu as well as the outer islands.
