Pow Wow Hawaii 2014

On Friday I stopped by the FITTED office / warehouse in Kaka'ako to take care of some business and couldn't help but notice all of the artwork going on all over the place. FITTED had a whole crew of people camped outside of their warehouse doing an installation. I decided to take a walk around the block to take in some of the artwork going on and to see what the hoopla was all about. Street after street throughout Kaka'ako had artist on scaffolding doing there installation. I couldn't begin to capture all the art going on because there was too much. This Pow Wow event has grown over the past couple of years and seems to be getting the attention of everyone. I saw a lot of people walking around checking out the artwork. Seems this area has become an open air gallery for all to see.

Saw this piece which I think was done by KATCH 1 of Natural Koncepts. Not sure who the artist was working on the other side was though.

I decided to stop in at Highway Inn for some Hawaiian Food and I ran into Kevin Ancell. We talked story for a little bit and then he had to get back to his installment. After I finished with lunch I went to go check him out. Not the most idea spot for a world class artist but regardless just to have an Ancell piece for all the locals to see in Hawaii is better than nothing at all.

Kevin mentioned that Makua Rothman made the request for him to paint Braddah IZ. 

This is the scene of one of the better art shows I've been to in awhile. Pat Tenore of RVCA managed to bring some world class artist to Hawaii and allowed them to share some space with some of Hawaii's most influential artist. Pat brought down some of the members of The Seventh Letter Crew from Los Angeles along with Estevan Oriol to document the whole occassion. This was a pretty refreshing change from the Triple Crown where all of Orange County comes in and takes over the North Shore. This was the first time that I've seen a large contingency from Los Angeles come in and make a huge impact on the local community from an inspirational standpoint. Then again I've never come out for the Pow Wow event in the past, this was a first for me.

From what I gather on Instagram the piece on the left is from a member of The Seventh Letter crew. Highway Inn from Waipahu has their new location right there on the right with the green sign. Just in case you like eat Hawaiian Food when in Kaka'ako!

Now you know it's crazy when HPD is cruising watching artist bomb buildings right in front of them. They must've felt helpless!

This particular building had a collection of artist work on it.

Wish I knew who all the artist were but there was just too many. I will do better research and find out who they are.

I believe this was local artist Remi Mead

This artist was adding some amazing stencil detail to his work. I didn't get a good enough close up to do his piece justice.

This is the outside of the FITTED office / warehouse. There were quite a few people minutes after I shot this outside of there place. From what I understood Red Bull was shooting a documentary on the artist or artists who was doing the installation here.

This was shot this morning (Saturday) on my way home from Ala Moana. As you can see the weather was cleared up and the scene outside FITTED wasn't as congested as the day before.
