Houhai Village Surf Hostile

On this day we took a trip back to the other side of the island away from the city. This time the drive was maybe only 45 minutes to an hour. We came across this small village where there was another surf camp. When we first pulled in it looked like all it was, was a small village selling tourist souvenirs and clothing. Hidden behind all the dilapidated buildings was a beach that was in the form of a protective cove.
When we first pulled in lunch was already awaiting us. Michael and Terry arrived first and had some cold beers and food ordered already! You know how we do!

Tsuyong, Vince, and I went next door after lunch for some coffee and and a shake. Not your typical shake though. It was kinda warm and tasted more like a whipped concoction. Definitely not the ice cold ice cream shake I was imagining.
This is Quizhuo or Alex the local village grom. He surfs and skates and this village is his playground. He's 9 years old, doesn't go to school but he's very smart and speaks and understands English very well. He lead us through all the back alleys and streets to get us to where we were going.
Local vendors in an alley deep frying chicken and some veggies.
Vince getting in on the action!
This is Houhai Bay. It's in the shape of a horse shoe so you can see clear across the other side where the back drop is the lush green mountain side.

That little spec out there is actually a guy surfing. They take nothing for granted here and a resemblance of a bump means they're going surfing! I saw some pics of this place about 3-4ft and barreling real nice!
Never ending construction everywhere. I think they just build to build but nothing ever comes of these places except for the shell.
Chuck! Our chauffeur and host on this trip! Without this guy we really wouldn't have been able to get around!

This is the flyer for the surf comp that Blue Hawaii will be sponsoring in Ryu Bay.
This was the surf hostile we visited. It was maybe a 4 floor building with rooms on all floor that could be rented.

Houhai Bay in the background view.
Dyson and Quizhou playing a game of fooseball on the rooftop bar.
Time to cool off with the crew relaxed.

The guy on the right Francesco and I forgot the other guys name (sorry). They co own this surf hostile together. Francesco also runs chinasurfreport.com this site is the official website for surfing in all of China. Francesco moved out here from Italy many years ago to start a new life and this is what he came up with.
Francesco also started Mescaline which is a surfboard company that manufactures boards here in China.
Gambling in the streets!

This was the other surf hostile a few blocks away on a different beach. No surf on this side though (wink)  just yachts and fishing boats! Better to surf the Houhai Bay side.

Fresh produce here!

Local grocery shop on a random side street. This is where you can get some of the good stuff garanz!
It seems everywhere we go in China no matter where there was a shitload of beer. I guess that's because you can't drink the water. The boys back home would have no problem with this!
Random family all getting ready to go out for a ride on the family motorcycle. Not an uncommon site by any means!
Mahalo Quizhuo for the tour of your village!
